The North West Dragons are thrilled to have secured the services of veteran seamer Alfred Mothoa, and they are sure he will add a lot value to their 2025/26 campaign as they go hunting for silverware.

Mothoa joins the Dragons from the Warriors, having spent the past two seasons in the Eastern Cape. While his style may be unorthodox, there’s no doubt that he is a strike bowler known for taking crucial wickets at key moments in a match.

Dragons head coach Craig Alexander told OFM Sport that Mothoa will be a great addition to the team.

“I’m happy that we’ve signed Alfred Mothoa. We always speak about improving each year, and adding him to our armoury is definitely a step in the right direction,” said Alexander.

“As you mentioned, he’s a very unorthodox bowler and a top professional both on and off the field. We’re really happy and grateful to have Alfred in our changing room.

“We wish him all the best, and we’re confident we’ll work well together during the pre-season so that, come the start of the new campaign, he’ll be ready and raring to go in the Dragons’ colours. We’re really looking forward to having him here.”

Reflecting on the past season, Alexander acknowledged that while the Dragons didn’t manage to add silverware to their cabinet during the 2025/26 campaign, they did achieve something significant by maintaining their spot in Division 1 of domestic cricket – an achievement he views as vital.

“The most important thing is that both our men’s and women’s teams remain in Division 1, where we belong. That in itself is a huge feather in our cap,” he added.

“Even though the men’s team didn’t bring home any trophies, we competed well in all three formats – and that’s something to be excited about. Next season, the goal remains the same: we want to fill that cabinet. But results are sometimes out of our control.

“What we do know is that we’ve achieved a lot this past season. With the squad we’ve put together, we’ve focused on executing our skills and plans properly. The results didn’t always go our way, but we’ll come back stronger.

“So, we'll go again next year. We’re still thriving in Division 1, and we’re proud of that.”

Alexander expects to finalise his contracting plans by the end of the week. While he remained tight-lipped about further signings, it’s likely the Dragons will be in the market for a new opening or top-order batter following the retirement of Matthew Kleinveldt.
