Kapp remains key player for Women’s Cricket World Cup─── MORGAN PIEK 09:28 Tue, 15 Apr 2025

All-rounder Marizanne Kapp will continue to represent South Africa despite not being included in the Proteas Women’s squad for the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka.
She remains a key figure in the team’s plans for the 2025 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup in India.
The South African side is set to travel to the subcontinent in April to compete in a One-Day International Tri-Series, which will also feature hosts Sri Lanka and India.
This series forms an important part of the team’s build-up to the global showpiece, offering valuable first-hand experience of the conditions expected on the subcontinent – although all fixtures will take place in Colombo.

Kapp is currently undergoing a conditioning block as she focuses on the World Cup, scheduled for September and October 2025 in India.
Her omission was among the most notable, but many senior players will still be part of the touring squad. Despite three potential debutants being named in the 15-player squad, there’s a strong core of experience, led by captain Laura Wolvaardt.
Kapp’s importance reaffirmed
Proteas head coach Mandla Mashimbyi reaffirmed Kapp’s importance to the team and confirmed she will return for the upcoming series against the West Indies and Pakistan.
“She is in the plans for the West Indies – and she’ll probably play in the Hundred as well – before coming back for the Pakistan series in preparation for the World Cup,” said Mashimbyi.
“She’ll have enough cricket under her belt heading into the World Cup.”

In Kapp’s absence, the responsibility of leading the all-rounder department is likely to fall on young Annerie Dercksen. South Africa will also look to the experienced duo of Suné Luus and Nadine de Klerk, both of whom are reliable with bat and ball.
Then there is also Chloe Tryon, who has tons of experience, spins the ball, and can be destructive with the bat. What Dercksen does bring with the ball, which the other don't, is pace and aggression.
South Africa will start their Tri-Series campaign against India on 29 April in Colombo.
