Proteas white-ball coach Rob Walter resigns─── MORGAN PIEK 16:35 Tue, 01 Apr 2025

Proteas white-ball head coach Rob Walter has tendered his resignation and will step down at the end of April 2025.
Walter, who guided the Proteas to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup final in 2024, cited personal reasons for his decision to step away.
Walter lives in New Zealand, making it difficult for him to travel to meet his commitments with the national team. Despite rarely having his best squad available outside major ICC tournaments, Walter still managed to lead his team deep into global competitions.

Apart from the historic T20 World Cup final in the USA and the West Indies, he steered the Proteas to the semi-finals of the ICC Cricket World Cup in India and qualification for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy in Pakistan and Dubai.
During his tenure, Walter oversaw the national team in 36 One-Day Internationals and 31 T20 Internationals, securing series wins against the Netherlands, Australia, Ireland, and Pakistan. Reflecting on his time as head coach, Walter said it had been an incredible privilege, and he was confident the team would continue to grow.
“Coaching the Proteas has been an incredible honour, and I am immensely proud of what we have achieved together,” Walter said. “The players, support staff, and the South African cricketing community have been fantastic throughout this journey.

“While it’s time for me to step away, I have no doubt the team will continue to grow and reach even greater heights.”
Cricket South Africa has yet to announce Walter’s successor, but it is believed that current Proteas Test coach Shukri Conrad may also take over the white-ball role.
The Proteas next scheduled limited overs series is the T20 International Tri-series against Zimbabwe and New Zealand which will be played in Harare in July.
