Now it’s a waiting game for Proteas Women─── MORGAN PIEK 08:17 Sun, 13 Oct 2024
The Proteas have taken a step closer to reaching the semi-finals of the 2024 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup played in the United Arab Emirates.
On Saturday, South Africa claimed an important 7-wicket win against Bangladesh in Dubai in their last group game, however, now it’s a waiting game and the net run rate could determine whether South Africa advances.
Bangladesh had a bat first and scored 106/3 in their allotted 20 overs with Sobhana Mostary scoring 38, while the captain Nigar Sultana scored 32 not out.

The allrounder Marizanne Kapp was South Africa’s best bowler on the day with 1/10 in her four overs, while the spinner Nonkululeko Mlaba took 1/11 in her spell. In reply, South Africa chased down the target in 17.2 overs with Tazmin Brits scoring 42, while Anneke Bosch scored 25.
Kapp was unbeaten with 13 runs, while Chloe Tryon scored 14.
The Klerksdorp-born Brits, who was the player of the match, said they did what they could, but now it’s out of their hands. “I’m trying to be aggressive in the power play, whether we need a net run rate or a win,” said Brits.
“I think the power play determines the entire game, but at the end of the day, we needed to win the game.
“We managed to get that right, which was the first box we had to tick. From now on we just have to wait for the net run rate. England still have to play against the West Indies and we’ll see what happens from there.”
On Sunday at 12:00, England will face Scotland in Sharjah and a win will put the English back at the top of Group B. On Tuesday, the Three Lionesses will face the Windies and this result will determine South Africa’s fate.
