NSC exams end without major incidents in Central SA─── KEKELETSO MOSEBETSI 10:51 Fri, 29 Nov 2024
The 2024 National Senior Certificate (NSC) exams have concluded smoothly in Central South Africa.
On Thursday (28/11), a Computer Applications Technology (CAT) practical exam brought the nearly six-week-long exam season to a close.
North West Education MEC Viola Motsumi praised the Class of 2024 for their “unwavering commitment and respect” for the examination process. “These qualities reflect not only their dedication over the past 13 years but also their readiness to step into the next stage of their lives.”
‘You mustn’t allow a moment of celebration to undo the good’
Motsumi urged learners to celebrate responsibly since the culmination of their efforts should be “honoured with dignity. As you celebrate this milestone, you mustn’t allow a moment of celebration to undo the good name you have built over the years. Carry yourselves with the same dignity and decorum that have defined your journey thus far.”
Free State MEC Julia Maboya extended her gratitude to the department of basic education, Umalusi officials, and all stakeholders involved in the administration of the exams.
“We express our heartfelt gratitude to chief invigilators, invigilators, department officials, stakeholders, and learners for their efforts in ensuring the successful conduct, administration, and management of the 2024 Grade 12 exams.”
The Northern Cape education department had earlier confirmed that exams proceeded smoothly as they neared their conclusion. Officials expressed satisfaction with the orderly process thanks to effective collaboration between educators, learners, and support staff. They, however, cautioned against risky parties.
The 2024 NSC examinations commenced on 21 October and concluded on Thursday (28/11) involving 37,561 full-time and 8,118 part-time candidates, a 1,503-candidate increase from the previous year in the Free State. North West had 41,480 candidates, and the Northern Cape 13,180.
Marking will start on Sunday (1/12) and end on Saturday, 14 December. Results are set to be released nationally by the minister of basic education, Siviwe Gwarube, on 13 January.
