A week after the body of a missing toddler was found wrapped in a black plastic bag in Winburg, no arrests have been made yet.
A funeral service will be held for Lethabe Litabe (3) on Saturday (23/11) in Makeleketla, Winburg.
Litabe was reported missing by his family a week ago when he went to play with the neighbours and never returned home. A search was started and his lifeless body was found in someone’s yard on Sunday (17/11).
“No arrests have been made yet after the body of a missing toddler was found on Sunday in Makeleketla, Winburg,” said Free State police spokesperson Stephen Thakeng.
“We appeal to anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of a suspect to contact Sgt. Liezel van der Westhuizen of Winburg detective services on 082 466 7678 or crime stop at 08600 10111.”
Netwerk24 reports the community of Makeleketla is angry about the death of Litabe, when his body was found there were no marks on his body but tissues were stuffed in his nostrils.
A memorial service was held at a taxi rank in Makeleketla on Friday (22/11).
Meanwhile, police in Hartswater have requested community members to assist in identifying the body of a woman who was retrieved from a canal.
Police have noted with concern the increase in drownings after the body of an unknown woman was discovered in a canal on Tuesday (19/11).
“An inquest case has been opened and is under investigation, an autopsy will be conducted to establish the cause of death,” said Northern Cape police spokesperson Molefi Shemane.
“The woman was believed to be between 35 and 45 years old, with a well-built physique and a light complexion, we request the community’s assistance in identifying her.”
The deceased was wearing a black T-shirt with a green jersey when she was found, anyone who might have information is requested to contact Detective Tebogo Markus on 082 460 6228 or crime stop at 08600 10111, he said. All information received will be treated confidentially.
