As the holiday season draws near, drivers must make sure their vehicles are safe and ready for a long trip because taking a vacation typically entails lengthy car rides.
Before hitting the road, vehicle tracking and fleet management company, Cartrack advises drivers to make sure their vehicle is in a roadworthy condition. All lights and indicators, windscreens, windscreen wipers, brakes, steering, shock absorbers, the exhaust system, and tyres should be carefully examined for faults.
It is vital that drivers avoid distractions on the road such as texting, conversations on cellular phones, they must be courteous towards fellow road users, keep their temper, and resist the temptation to retaliate.

“The festive season is usually associated with hijackings and “the first and golden rule is not to antagonise the hijackers,” said Fidelity Services Group chief executive Wahl Bartmann. “You need to show you are not a threat. Lift your arms to show you have no weapon and will surrender.”

In the unfortunate event that you are hijacked, Bartmann recommends:
• Avoid direct eye contact with the hijackers.
• Try to remain calm.
• Try to take in what they are wearing, and the sound of their voices.
• Use your left arm to undo your seatbelt and put your car in neutral.
• Do not turn off your car.
• Get out slowly.
