A total of 63 brand-new vehicles have been handed over to the police in the Northern Cape. It includes 40 Toyota Double Cab and 23 Isuzu 4x4 Double Cab bakkies suitable for the working terrain of the province.

The handover took place in Kimberley at the SAPS K9 unit on Monday (13/5), in the presence of district commissioners, provincial heads, and station commanders.

The vehicles will be distributed throughout the province at various police departments. Spokesperson Sergio Kock said there are 63 police stations and each station will get one vehicle. He said the province had recently received ten cars for detectives.

Northern Cape Provincial Commissioner Lt. Gen. Koliswa Otola, who was accompanied by Deputy Provincial Commissioner for Policing Maj. Gen. Luntu Ngubelanga, Deputy Provincial Commissioner for Corporate Services Maj. Gen. Thabo Mphuthi, and acting Deputy Provincial Commissioner for Crime Detection Maj. Gen. Jacques Raymond handed over the vehicles to the Northern Cape Police.

Otola told the police members they need to utilise the resources responsibly and efficiently and continue to combat crime through decisive police action and robust community involvement in an effort to support operations such as Operation Shanela and Vala Umgodi

“The SAPS will continue to enhance and improve on the reaction time to community complaints and visible policing with a consistent focus on keeping the province safe and secure,” Otola added.

This almost a year after the Department of Health in the province bought R15 million worth of new vehicles for hospitals and it was the second launch of emergency vehicles in the province after they had given 14 emergency vehicles in Namaqualand two months prior.
