The second annual Fit to Fight Fire competition and expo, to be held in Midvaal at the Meyerton Sports Club on 25 May, promises to be even more thrilling than last year’s competition, with added categories and fun activities.

Fire and Rescue teams from all over South Africa are encouraged to participate and join in on the competition, the competition will consist of five different stages that will showcase the readiness and test the skillset of firefighters who aim to assist in our communities.

Stage 1 – Hammer Drill. Stage 2 – Manikin Drag Demonstration. Stage 3 – Tower Run Stage 4 – Tyre Flip. Stage 5 – Ladder Run.

Participating teams will consist of four members each and will have a men’s category, a women’s category, a mixed category and a 40-year-old and above category. Each category comes with its own prize. At the end, there will be an overall prize winner.

Teams will also be able to compete in an EMS patient simulation competition hosted by North-West University and EpicEM, as well as a Confined Space Rescue Simulation hosted by Dräger.

The Fit to Fight Fire Expo will include numerous industrial exhibitors and demonstrations in addition to the competitions. Additionally, attendees can watch demonstrations of rescue tools like the Jaws of Life, K9 units in action, CPR lessons, fire extinguishing methods, and skilful handling of snakes.
