A 40-year-old suspect found in possession of alleged stolen cattle was remanded in custody after his first appearance in the Vryburg Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
A suspect was arrested on Thursday (4/1) after members of the Stock Theft and Endangered Species and K9 units acted on information they received about theft of livestock.
When the suspect’s GWM bakkie was spotted at a filling station in Market Street, Vryburg, in the early hours of Thursday morning, police searched the vehicle. Two carcasses were found, which were later positively identified by the farm manager through the serial numbers on the ear tags.
Two passengers in the bakkie managed to get away, while the driver, Tshokolo Alfred McCarthy (40) was arrested. The suspect’s vehicle was seized, and the carcasses were handed to the lawful owner.
