The Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) has rejected a former North West EFF Chairperson's attempt to have charges against her withdrawn.
Betty Diale (52), a former attorney, is accused of stealing thousands from the Road Accident Fund. She appeared before the Specialised Commercial Court sitting in Rustenburg on Tuesday (31/10), where her case was postponed to 28 November, after her representations to request the DPP to withdraw her charges were rejected.
NPA spokesperson Henry Mamothame said the state already provided Diale with all the necessary documents in preparation for trial. They hope there won't be any further delays in this case, as it has already been postponed several times.
A warrant of arrest was issued for Diale after failing to appear in court on 26 September without providing reasons for her absence. She was rearrested on 6 October and released on warning.
OFM News previously reported an enquiry was held on her absence, and the court subsequently accepted her medical certificate as proof of her absence.
