“We today highlight some of the major successes achieved by the SAPS in the last couple of weeks.”
A press conference this morning (26/7) in Pretoria highlighted the success of police operations. The outcomes of Operation Shanela in the fight against organised crime have yielded the desired outcomes.
“The work of the SAPS has, through intelligence-led operations and weekly high-density operations, resulted in the arrest of thousands of criminals, especially dangerous and hardened criminals,” said Police Minister Bheki Cele.

To mention a few of the successes of the police operations in Central South Africa, in the North West in August 2023, an intelligence-driven operation led to the arrest of seven suspects who kidnapped victims for ransom related to municipality tenders.
The suspects were in police uniform and demanded an amount of R300 000. They are accused of kidnapping, impersonating police officers, and possessing false papers, among other offences.
On Tuesday (19/9) an intelligence-driven operation in the Namakwa district of the Northern Cape resulted in the arrest of 867 illegal miners.

Police are actively monitoring the region, a centre for illicit mining activities, and collaborating with other relevant authorities to combat illegal mining activities.
SAPS continues to take decisive action in the face of crime involving vital infrastructure, business crime, stock theft, illegal mining, illegal cigarettes, theft, hijacking, and car smuggling.
