Brenza Modipa who was known as Bra B or “Laita ya stek” (homie) to his fans and friends died at the Tshepong Hospital in Jouberton near Klerksdorp on Saturday night. 

The DJ, who is originally from the small town Kgakala in Leeudoringstad in the Maqaussi Hills Local Municipality, pursued his passion for media and broadcasting in radio from 2008 until 2023 and was widely celebrated by many as an icon on the airwaves. He also was a qualified teacher. 

One of his colleagues, Dlangamandla Mabusela, has described the death of his colleague as the greatest loss for the local community station fraternity.

He said the community has lost an icon. Modipa anchored one of the most followed shows called “Ntome tsebe” (Tip me off) in 2008 and 2009, from Monday to Thursday from 19:00 to 22:00. He was able to attract thousands of listeners across different platforms. But with the changes in the radio structure, he was then moved or given one slot a week.

StarFM station manager, Hlangi Malungane, has also expressed his sadness at the passing of Modipa. Mulungane has described Modipa as a legend in the radio fraternity.

One of the local philanthropists in Matlosana, Thabo Pelesane, also shared a message on Facebook. He was saddened by the news because Modipa was a humble and kind presenter. 

“One of my great colleagues at STAR FM was always helpful and kind. Ntome tsebe was a great show, exposing a lot of stuff without fear or favour. I hosted his current affairs show twice and he did the same hosting My Midday Relaxation Show when we were both committed elsewhere.” 

This father of two will be buried on Sunday (3/09) at the Kgakala Community Hall.
