Administration issues at the Free State departments and municipalities will on Wednesday (26/7) be under the spotlight during an engagement between the provincial government and a chapter nine institution.

Free State Premier Mxolisi Dukwana will host the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) head, Advocate Andy Mothibi, tomorrow in Bloemfontein.

Dukwana's spokesperson, Sello Dithibe, says in a statement that the provincial government and SIU will host a stakeholder engagement to drive an education and awareness programme on the unit's role in protecting the interests of the State and the public.

The Stakeholder engagement is part of working toward building a corruption-free Free State Province.

Over the past years, the SIU announced their investigations across several departments alleged to have transgressed the Public Finance Management Act among others.

Recently the unit announced that it would scrutinise the state of affairs at the Free State Premier's Office, including two former premiers' tenures.

The unit said it would be investigating the 2017/18 and 2019/20 periods which coincides with both tenures of former premiers, including Ace Magashule and Sisi Ntombela.

“The engagement also aims to establish a positive and mutually beneficial relationship with the Office of the Premier and the Free State community based on trust and an honest engagement; encourage a culture of blowing the whistle against corruption.”

Members of the Executive Council, Heads of Departments, Chief Financial Officers, heads of state institutions in the province, and Mayors and Executive Mayors will attend the engagement.
