Hostage situation at Bloemfontein mall─── 11:51 Tue, 20 Jun 2023
Two suspects have been arrested while three remain at large following a hostage situation at a popular electronic appliance store at Fleurdal Mall in Bloemfontein.
The hostage situation was reported to the police between 09:00 and 10:00 on Tuesday morning and their tactical response team, patrolling in the area, responded quickly.
According to the Free State police spokesperson Masilela Langa, one of the car guards showed the police on their arrival suspects carrying a bag.
Police immediately searched the suspects and found a .38 special firearm and keys of a bakkie they attempted to steal.
It's understood all the employees were in the kitchen of the store when the incident took place.
Langa added that many television sets were stolen. An exact number is not available yet. No one was hurt during the incident.
