Mangaung MM position re-advertised, again─── TSHEHLA KOTELI 08:12 Fri, 17 Mar 2023
The Mangaung Metro Municipality in Bloemfontein has readvertised the Municipal Manager post after it failed to appoint one in late 2022.
According to the job advertisement, the successful candidate will be in office for the next five years, with a total remuneration package of R1 671 343 (minimum); R2 025 870 (midpoint); and R2 380 395 (maximum). The candidate will be the current Acting MM Tebogo Motlashuping’s successor.
Before Motlashuping, the metro had at least three acting MMs in 2022, with Motlashuping being the longest-acting MM within that period. The current job advertisement that will be closing on 27 March 2023 will not be the first time the position has been re-advertised.

The metro found itself changing MMs after Sello More was axed in January 2022, with only a few days left on his contract as the MM. To date, More’s removal from office is still explained to be unusual, as the motion to remove him was introduced by a council. At the time, a close source to OFM News stated the council should have issued a letter to More with the intention to suspend him, pending an investigation. However, the spotlight has always been on More’s appointments since the beginning of his days in office. More has since tried to launch an urgent court bid against the metro, with the hopes of interdicting the appointment of his successor.
More’s application did not stop the metro from appointing Teboho Maine as an Acting MM. Shortly after Maine moved into the office, Dukwana launched an interdict against him (Maine). The Free State High Court judge, Sharon Chesiwe, ordered that Maine must be interdicted from assuming any responsibilities in the office. A decision was then taken to appoint the Directorate of Social Services' head, Mzingisi Nkungwana, as the third acting City Manager in late February. At the time of Nkungwana’s appointment, there was a job advertisement for a permanent MM.

When the National Department of Cogta took over control of the Metro, with Minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma at the head, the fourth acting City Manager, Tebogo Motlashuping, was appointed. Motlashuping is the latest addition to the acting city managers since late January, while the search for a permanent city manager continues.
