Disbarred attorney to appear in court for fraud─── 17:26 Tue, 14 Mar 2023
A 52-year-old former attorney is expected to appear before the Sasolburg Magistrate's Court on 7 April 2023 on charges of fraud, contravention of the Legal Practice Act, and contempt of court.
This follows after a complainant allegedly approached the suspect for legal representation in his divorce and paid him R21 0000. However, the suspect failed to inform the complainant that he was disbarred and therefore could not practice as an attorney.
In 2021, the complainant learned the suspect had been disbarred since 2018, and he opened a case of fraud against the suspect.
Captain Yolisa Mgolodela, police spokesperson, says the matter was reported to the Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation based in Welkom. The suspect was served with a summons to appear in court in April.
