North West police officers behind bars─── BAMBATHA GIKO 14:58 Fri, 10 Feb 2023
The Police Commissioner of North West, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, condemned officers involved in criminal acts.
This comes after four police officers appeared in court this week on various charges, including theft, obstruction of justice, and bribery.
Sergeant Thapelo Rammekwa (46) appeared in the Madikwe Magistrate's Court on 8 February 2023 and will again appear on Wednesday 8 March 2023.
Rammekwa allegedly defeated the ends of justice when he had three yet-to-be-arrested suspects help him sell a generator he confiscated. Rammekwa was arrested on Tuesday 7 February 2023 after the Provincial Anti-Corruption and investigation unit was informed of his corrupt ways.
In a separate case, three officers have been arrested on corruption charges.
Police spokesperson Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone says the trio demanded R10 000 from a driver allegedly transporting tyres without proof of purchase. The driver failed to provide a document of proof and eventually paid R1 500.
Sgt. Maria Mosiamisi, Keaobaka Rantoane, and Sgt. Thapelo Molifi appeared before the Rustenburg Magistrate's Court on Wednesday 8 February 2023 and were granted bail. Their next court appearance will be on Friday 14 April 2023.
