Free State welcomes Christmas babies─── TSHEHLA KOTELI 11:55 Mon, 26 Dec 2022
The Free State Department of Health helped to successfully deliver 19 newborn Christmas babies.
Different maternity wards in the province welcomed 13 boys and six girls on 25 December 2022.
According to the department's acting spokesperson, Elke de Witt, the maternity ward at National District Hospital in Bloemfontein delivered the first Christmas baby - a baby girl - at 00:04 to Ofentse Letutu from Bloemfontein. The baby weighed 3.010 kg.

Another baby girl, Lehakwoe Makhabe, was born at 00:43 to mother Judy Makhabe at MUCPP in Bloemfontein.
The first Christmas baby boy was delivered in Thabong in Welkom, weighing 2.740kg at Bongani Regional Hospital at 00:50.
The MEC responsible for Health, Montseng Tsiu, paid a visit to mothers at MUCPP and the maternity ward at Pelonomi Regional Hospital to offer her congratulations to the proud mothers. The MEC also handed over a baby care package to the mothers.
Some of the first babies born on Christmas day include Divano, born at the MUCPP maternity ward, and baby Abangile born at 03:26 at Pelonomi Regional Hospital's maternity ward.
