The Thabo Mofutsanyana District Municipality in the Free State - in partnership with the Department of Police, Roads, and Transport - launched its Arrive Alive campaign in Reitz this weekend.

This is ahead of larger traffic volumes expected during the festive season on the district's R26 and R56 cross junction.

Assistant director of Road Safety in the district, Thokozile Hadebe, told OFM News they have managed to save many lives through such campaigns.

"We are happy about the results of this campaign every year, although losing one's life is a serious concern. Some drivers reduce their speed when they notice the visibility of traffic officers. We encourage them to keep driving safely even with no traffic controllers".

According to Hadebe, most roads require drivers’ attention to avoid unnecessary accidents.

She concluded that drivers must respect one another and be patient with each other on the road.

She urged people to avoid drinking and driving.
