Three arrested after violent protests at Winburg─── KEKELETSO MOSEBETSI 09:21 Thu, 11 Aug 2022

Three people have been arrested for public violence in the Free State following the violent protest march that erupted in Winburg late last night.
Free State police spokesperson, Stephen Thakeng, tells OFM News that at about 19:00 yesterday, community members started protesting about residential sites in Makeleketla before things got out of hand. Thakeng says the angry residents approached the N1 road and torched a truck that was passing, which blocked the N1 road. He says three people aged 15, 19, and 22 years old were arrested for public violence.
Thakeng adds that the situation is under control for now, as members of Public Order Policing and Provincial Traffic are currently monitoring the situation and controlling the flow of traffic. Thakeng has cautioned motorists travelling from Johannesburg to off-ramp at Theunissen towards Bloemfontein, while those travelling from Bloemfontein are able to pass through.
