Mangaung’s biggest festival to return─── TSHEHLA KOTELI 13:11 Thu, 03 Mar 2022
The controversial flagship programme of the Free State Department of Sports, Arts and Culture - the Mangaung Arts and Culture Festival (Macufe) - is set to return this year after being cancelled in 2020 after the Covid-19 outbreak.
The announcement of Macufe's return was made by the Free State Premier, Sisi Ntombela, as part of her many other plans that she has for the province in 2022. The department announced in 2021 they will host a virtual Macufe, however, the idea never saw the light of day.

It is unclear at the moment whether the C-Squared Group will still organise the festival.
In 2018, the CEO of the C-Squared Group, Ben Moseme, denied allegations that his company has been milking money from the department. This after questions regarding Macufe were mounting as opposition parties in the Provincial Legislature demanded answers as to whether the department is benefitting from the Macufe events.
