Matlosana mayor to be laid to rest─── LUCKY NKUYANE 07:50 Thu, 22 Jul 2021

The Klerksdorp-based Matlosana Municipal Mayor, who passed away due to Covid-19 complications, is to be laid to rest on Thursday.
Maetu Kgaile, who was the mayor since 2016 after municipal elections, died on Friday 16 July, following her hospitalisation in ICU. Her spokesperson, Nick Mapheelle, says the late mayor's funeral will be held at the municipality's Civic Centre. Mapheelle says due to lockdown level 4 regulations only a maximum of 50 people will allowed to attend the funeral.
"The funeral service will also be on social media platforms in compliance with Covid-19 regulations," he adds. Mapheelle, on 13 July in a media statement, informed the public Kgaile had contracted Covid-19 and was self-isolating at home. In her absence, councillor Farouk Tagaree was the acting mayor.
The passing of Kgaile sent shockwaves around the city and across the province. Amongst those who responded with shock to her death, included premier Job Mokgoro, who expressed sadness at her death.
Many from the Dr Kenneth Kaunda Region which includes the municipality took to social media to express their heartfelt condolences to Kgaile's family and friends .
