Two men remain in custody after their appearance before the Bafokeng District Court on Friday, on charges relating to impersonating police officers following a cash heist.

Sfiso Nkosi and Siphumuzo Buthelezi allegedly went to the Phokeng Police Station, where they falsely identified themselves as police officers assigned to profile suspects arrested for an alleged cash-in-transit armed robbery that occurred in Majakaneng outside Brits on Tuesday.

The suspects that they allegedly wanted to profile, has appeared before the Bafokeng District Court on Wednesday on charges of aggravated robbery, hijacking, possession of unauthorised explosives, possession of stolen money, and illegal possession and firearms and ammunition.

The suspects allegedly robbed a cash transit van of an undisclosed amount of cash and fled the scene following a shootout with the driver of the escort vehicle that was following the cash van.

Police intensified their search for the suspects, which led to the arrest of ten men. They discovered a vehicle that was hijacked during the heist, stained cash, 12 firearms, ammunition, and four vehicles.

The North West's National Prosecuting Authority's (NPA) spokesperson, Henry Mamothame, confirmed to OFM News that the two men were denied bail and their case has been postponed to 17 June for bail application. He indicated that the state will oppose it.

Mamothame said both Nkosi and Buthelezi, together with the ten men arrested for the alleged heist, will remain in custody until their next court appearance.
