Memorial service held for Moqhaka councillor─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 14:10 Thu, 10 Jun 2021
A memorial service will be held this afternoon for the Free State’s Moqhaka Municipality’s councillor, Boniswa Maphazi.
Maphazi passed away on Monday following a short illness. The 31-year-old became well-known in the province after she was appointed into the position of PR councillor, following the death of the former Executive Mayor, Lucky Phooko. Following the death of Phooko in September last year, Maphazi was soon appointed in council.
Moqhaka spokesperson, Dika Kheswa, said they have learned with great shock and sorrow about the sudden passing of Maphazi. The ANC Youth League in the Fezile Dabi region, which Moqhaka falls under, has stated that Mphazi was passionate about youth and women empowerment and the structure is at a great loss. She is expected to be laid to rest this weekend in Rammolutsi near Viljoenskroon.
