#MangaungShutdown: 14-year-old learner to be laid to rest─── OLEBOGENG MOTSE 07:35 Sat, 29 May 2021

The funeral service of the teenager who was shot and killed during the volatile Mangaung Shutdown takes place in Heidedal, Bloemfontein, on Saturday.
The 14-year-old Liam Jevano Siegel was shot at allegedly by a 57-year-old security guard who was manning an old shopping complex in Heidedal when it was stormed by a mob of protesters on 17 May.
Siegel reportedly died on the scene and made headlines as the casualty of the service delivery related unrest in the metro.
The office of the Free State Premier, Sisi Ntombela, is overseeing the burial process in consultation with the family, and will therefore pay the costs.
The service is expected to get underway at 08:00 at Heide Primary School which is where the deceased was a learner. The school and other community members already honoured the 14-year-old in a funeral service at the aforementioned school on Wednesday. Chairperson of the school’s governing body, Daryll de Koker, previously told OFM News that the memorial service was intended to encourage the teenager’s hurting parents in the wake of the tragedy.
The 57-year-old guard, who is facing a culpable homicide charge in relation to Siegel’s death, alleges he was only trying to scare off the mob of protesters when he accidentally shot at the teenager. He was arrested and released on bail of R1000 by the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court last week. The case was postponed to 9 June.
