Employees investigated for assaulting Rustenburg MM─── LUCKY NKUYANE 10:22 Fri, 28 May 2021
An unspecified number of employees at the Rustenburg Local Municipality in the North West are being investigated for an assault on the Municipal Manager (MM).
The municipality says a group of its employees at the Electrical Department allegedly assaulted Sello Makona, after a brawl.
According to the municipal spokesperson, David Magae, it’s alleged that a group of employees closed an electrical storage unit in an attempt to sabotage the electrical supply to the city.
Magae says that when this group was confronted by Makoma, who is currently receiving medical attention at a local hospital, they stoned and assaulted him. Meanwhile, one of the employees has also opened a case of assault against the said manager, who he accuses of attacking and beating him.
The police spokesperson Sam Tselanyane confirms that two cases of assault have been registered with them. “It is alleged that on Wednesday 26 May 2021, at about 16:30, the complainant, Buang Senatle (60), was at his workplace (Electricity Department) when the Municipal Manager, Sello Makona (40), came and took pictures of them. He allegedly asked him why he was doing that, and it was at that time when Makona attacked and beat him with his fist on the left side of his head. Their client’s advisor tried to intervene and he was also hit with a fist in the face,” Tselanyane says. He adds that no suspects have yet been arrested in both the incidents and the investigation continues.
