Dihlabeng Municipality under spotlight─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 15:10 Tue, 23 Mar 2021

Ageing water and sanitation infrastructure are amongst the top priorities in the Free State. This is according to the Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs MEC Thembeni Nxangisa.
Addressing questions over sewage spillage and the water crisis experienced in the Dihlabeng Municipality, Nxangisa says infrastructure in many municipalities is too old and has posed several challenges. He told Members of the Provincial Legislature (MPLs) funding is needed to restore all infrastructure issues in the province and his department is working on it.
Responding to DA leader, Roy Jankielsohn, whose party recently embarked on an inspection in Fouriesburg, Nxangisa further refuted allegations that Dihlabeng has become dysfunctional due to maladministration and political infighting.
His statement before the House comes amidst growing concerns over the state of local government in the province, with the South African Human Rights Commission having confirmed that they are receiving more and more complaints about service delivery issues.
The Provincial Manager of the Commission, Thabang Kheswa, earlier told OFM News they are concerned about how municipalities fail to carry out their duties and how human rights are increasingly infringed upon.
