Augrabies Falls in NC about to reach its peak─── 16:17 Mon, 18 Jan 2021
The Augrabies Falls in the Northern Cape will soon reach its peak capacity as more water is being released from the Vanderkloof dam, says SANParks communication manager Genevieve Maasdorp.
To date, the falls have had a magnificent water flow of 880 cubic metres per second.
Water and Sanitation spokesperson, Giepie van Niekerk, says the flow of the water significantly cleaned all the algae in the system and enhanced the flow of water.
The increasing water levels have curbed the current drought significantly and make for greener areas in and around the Augrabies Falls, adds Maasdorp.
Van Niekerk does, however, add that the sudden increased levels of rain and water availability have flooded the underground drainage systems, thus washing the Vaal sewage up all along the Vaal drainage system.
