Workers urged to return to work─── 07:40 Fri, 23 Oct 2020

The management of the Matlosana Local Municipality in Klerksdorp, North West, has urged workers to return to work or they will apply a “no work, no pay” principle.
This follows after workers decided not to return to work pending the outcome of negotiations between the municipality and workers union Samwu.
According to municipal spokesperson Ntswaki Makhetha, municipal manager Roger Nkhumise has informed workers that only those who worked during the Covid-19 hard lockdown will be paid danger allowance once the funds are deposited into the municipal account.
Negotiations between the municipality and the union are ongoing, however, workers are adamant not to return to work until their demands are met.
Samwu provincial leaders yesterday addressed the workers in Klerksdorp. The union’s Secretary, Vincent Diphoko, told OFM News that the situation is bigger than they thought - and workers aren't willing to return because of their grievances.
Makhetha said the protest has affected services delivery and the municipality apologises to communities affected by the strike.
Workers have been protesting since Monday over danger allowances and Covid-19 compensation.
"Workers are determined not to go back to work up until this matter is resolved, however, we are advising and engaging to find an amicable solution," said Diphoko.
