NW municipal talks with union continue | News Article

Representatives of the South African Municipal Workers Union (Samwu) and the City of Matlosana management in Klerksdorp have established a task team to engage in discussions over workers' demands.

Following protests by workers on Monday, a meeting between the two parties on Tuesday resolved to have a team looking into the matter. A deadline of next Wednesday, 28 October, has been set for both parties to reach an agreement.

Samwu provincial secretary, Vincent Diphoko, says workers are back at work, hoping that engagements will be fruitful. He told OFM News that the provincial committee will intervene should the demands not be met. Workers are demanding danger allowance and Covid-19 compensation.

OFM News has learned that the City of Matlosana's Chief Financial Officer will be part of the task team.

"We are confident that the process of discussions will yield positive results and that solutions to workers' demands will be met," said Diphoko.

The City of Matlosana has condemned incidents of vandalism during the workers' protest.
