Three suspects arrested for illegal possession of firearms─── 13:19 Mon, 14 Sep 2020
Three male suspects are expected to appear in the Orkney Magistrate's Court on Monday after the North West police apprehended them on Friday night 11 September 2020 for the illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.
The suspects, aged 23, 32, and 43, were snatched after the police received information about the suspects who were conspiring to commit armed robbery at Orkney, according to police spokesperson, Amanda Funani.
Police were on the lookout for their white Toyota Camry vehicle when the suspects were spotted and intercepted while entering Orkney. The vehicle was searched and two firearms, live ammunition, and two magazines were discovered and seized. The three suspects were arrested and charged with the illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.
The North West Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, said the police are working together with members of the community and will continue to ensure that illegal firearms are removed from the wrong hands as part of curbing the commission of serious and violent crimes.
