NW department investigates nepotism claims | News Article

The North West Department of Health has conducted an independent investigation into the allegations of nepotism at Tshepong Hospital in Klerksdorp.

The investigation follows after a list of names of employees at the hospital, allegedly appointed by family members in the department, made rounds on social media.

Health MEC, Madoda Sambatha, says the list has brought uncertainty and some members of the community have threatened a protest action.

The executive management of the hospital says they appreciate the public for their vigilantism and exposing the matter relating to the authenticity of the allegations. The management says based on the outcomes of the preliminary investigations, the hospital will immediately suspend the perpetrators who made such appointments.

Meanwhile, the Department has ordered the hospital to stop with the current recruitment of advertised posts until the preliminary investigations are concluded. The public will be updated with the outcomes of the investigations.

This investigation comes after the province's premier, Job Mokgoro, fired the head of the department, Thabo Lekalakala, after he was found guilty on five charges, including falsifying details on his CV and other fraud charges relating to the infamous Gupta-family.
