This, after the council sitting was eventually successfully held with the purpose of electing the mayor, speaker and chief whip. Speaking to OFM News about what can be expected in the municipality going forward, the Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) MEC in the Free State, Thembeni Nxagisa, said this is a sign of good things coming to the residents.

Nxagisa says he's happy that all 69 councillors of this municipality attended the council sitting, adding that seeing councillors working together this way is a sign that they're willing to serve residents.

"I'm glad that all councillors have been part of the meeting. They put their differences aside and ensure that needs of the residents come first," says Nxagisa.

He further promised clean water, electricity and construction of roads to the residents after this council sitting. However, Nxagisa urges residents to pay for their bills as doing so will improve service delivery.
