Moqhaka Municipal Manager to appear in court─── 09:20 Mon, 12 Aug 2019
The municipal manager of Moqhaka Local Municipality in the Free State, Simon Mqwathi, is expected to appear in the Kroonstad Magistrate’s Court today for fraud, corruption and defeating the ends of justice.
Mqwathi was allegedly involved in a dodgy tender fraud deal.
He was arrested in June this year after being on the run for a few weeks. While on the run, Mqwathi posted a video on social media after he failed to show up at the local police station. The Hawks then considered him to be a fugitive until his arrest. He has since been placed on precautionary suspension after he was granted R100 000 bail in his last appearance.
