Salaries delayed almost every month - Samwu | News Article

Employees of the Maluti-A-Phofung municipality in the Free State downed tools this morning and told OFM News about how the municipality does not take employees seriously.

This is due to the delay in the payment of their salaries promised to be paid yesterday.

The South African Municipal Workers Union (Samwu) chairperson in Maluti-A-Phofung, Sphiwe Manyoni, says delays in the payment of salaries occur almost every month.

Manyoni says his office had not received any salary delay announcement from the municipal manager, and instead overheard about the situation from the municipal employees in the corridors yesterday morning.

According to him, this is a clear sign that the employer doesn't respect its employees as there was no formal communication.

Furthermore, Manyoni says the municipality has been put under administration for about a year and a half now but it goes from bad to worse because workers are still not getting paid in time. According to him, the municipality does not need any administrators, it needs a new manager who will ensure that the equitable share is well managed for the purpose of serving both employees and residents.

Manyoni further stated that in a call with premier Sisi Ntombela yesterday evening, she confirmed that workers would receive their payments on the 26th of July 2019.
