A passer-by made this gruesome discovery on 19 May 2019 at around 08:42 at the corner of Buren and Arrarat Road. The police spokesperson, Stephen Thakeng, says the 19-year-old student was arrested on Tuesday 28 May 2019 after his parents handed him over to the police. The woman, Naledi Arcelia Lethoba, was found with a knife still stuck on her neck with her lower body and face burnt, and her breasts cut off. Earlier the police said the motive for the killing was unknown.

Thakeng says Lethoba’s parents identified her body on 24 May 2019 at Welkom’s Pathology Services at the Welkom Mortuary. Meanwhile, General Lerato Molale welcomed the arrest of the student and applauded the investigation team for a thorough investigation which led to the arrest. The suspect is expected to appear at the Welkom Magistrate’s Court on Thursday 30 May 2019.

Thakeng says since the discovery of this gruesome murder, the investigative team worked around the clock following every lead from residents who gave information. The 19-year-old student of a Welkom college was arrested yesterday by the investigator, Tsie Matlokotsi, after he was handed over to the police by the young man parents.
