The Northern Cape Provincial Legislature says it’s all systems go ahead of its first sitting, which will be on Wednesday morning


Speaking to OFM News, Mpho Masina, who is the spokesperson at the provincial the office of the provincial speaker’s office said, the house is ready to swear in members from the African National Congress (ANC), Democratic Alliance (DA), Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and Freedom Front Plus (FF+) tomorrow, as they will now become members of the provincial legislature and will present each party as per the outcomes of the 2019 general elections which took place two weeks ago. 

As it stands, the ANC will have 18 seats, the EFF will be represented with 8 seats, while the EFF with 3 and the FF + with 1.  Masina says the ceremony will be held at the province’s capital city, in Kimberley and over 1500 people are expected to attend.

Meanwhile, OFM News earlier reported that according to North West's Secretary to the Legislature, Oageng Mosiane, the first sitting which will see the election of the Speaker of the House, the Deputy Speaker, Chief Whip, and the Premier is set to take place on 22 May.

Mosiane says all the preparations are running smoothly and it is all systems go. He says the Judge President of the Mmabatho High Court, Judge Monica Leeuw, will preside over the inauguration of members at ten in the morning and is certain that an announcement on the North West premier-elect will be made by then.

In the Free State, the spokesperson of the provincial legislature, Life Mokone also confirmed that things were running smoothly in the province, ahead of the start of the sixth Democratic Parliamentary term, which kicks off officially tomorrow. Mokone said the Free State legislature also looks forward to the registration and swearing-in of Members of Parliament (MPs) and Members of Provincial Legislatures (MPLs)without any glitches.
