The academic future of students who are on the University Access Programme (UAE) at the University of the Free State remains uncertain.

More than 200 first-year students who applied for the NSFAS funding and successfully registered for the 2019 academic year have had their allocations reversed.

The frustrated students say they don’t know how they are going to survive throughout the year.

Meanwhile, the university’s Vice-Chancellor Professor Francis Petersen has promised to meet the students halfway. He says they will not be deregistered.
