Unfinished RDPS houses to be allocated to FS’ needy | News Article

A huge number of unfinished RDP houses built in Free State town of Harrismith are to be allocated to the needy.

According to the Free State premier, Sisi Ntombela, the houses will be allocated specifically to the people of Qwaqwa and Harrismith. The premier revealed to OFM News that those houses have no owners, meanwhile, people are living without a roof over their head.

Apparently they were built in hope of being allocated to the people who apply for them. To this day, no one has shown any interest in making an application for one of these houses.

Ntombela said the Free State government is going to ensure that the houses are completed so that they can be allocated to those who need them.

"The first priority, when issuing out the houses, will be our old people. We're going to give out the first hundred houses to them", said Ntombela.

She added that the people living in the Maluti-A-Phofung Local Municipality, which falls under the Thabo Mofutsanyana District Municipality, have more challenges that need to be attended to urgently.

"Besides the problems of water, electricity and roads, they also experience a lot of other problems on a daily basis. Therefore, we as the provincial leadership, are hoping to ensure that the municipality is settled before departing to the other places in the province," Ntombela said.

She concluded that the process of identifying people who really need houses will start as early as next week.
