FS CUT expects classes to resume without incident on Thursday─── LUCKY NKUYANE 10:12 Thu, 28 Feb 2019

Lectures are expected to resume on Thursday at the Central University of Technology (CUT) both in Bloemfontein and Welkom without incident, despite a few students who have not received their allowances yet.
The institution’s spokesperson, Dan Maritz, tells OFM News that lectures are expected to resume as most students have received their food, transport and accommodation allowances through the help of National Students Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) officials.
Maritz says following almost two weeks’ protests by students, NSFAS officials came to the campus on Tuesday to help speed up the process of students’ payments.
Students have been unhappy with the aid scheme for not paying their allowances since the reopening of the university in February 2019. Maritz says they are hopeful that the two NSFAS officials on campus will help all students to receive their allowances.
Efforts to get the comment from the CUT Students Representative Council (SRC) was unsuccessful. This as irate students staged disruptive protests on Monday that led to the suspension of classes. One of the students from the CUT, who is among those who have received their financial allowance from the aid scheme, says he is relieved that the worst is over and he can now look forward to his future by ensuring that he works hard.
He says students were genuinely worried about the non-payment of their allowances.
