Northern Cape municipalities merge | News Article

Kimberley - The Municipal Demarcation Board (MDB) has announced the amalgamation of Mier Local Municipality and Khara Hais Local municipality in the Northern Cape.

This after the board held public hearings on the re-determination of municipalities across the country.

Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) Minister Pravin Gordhan asked the MDB to look into merging some of the municipalities in the country that are not dysfunctional. About 400 submissions related to 86 municipalities nationally were considered.

Speaking at the Local Government Summit held in Kimberley on Friday, Deputy COGTA Minister, Andries Nel, said only one case in the Northern Cape was part of the process.
