Thaba Nchu - A Bloemfontein parent is fuming with anger because she was allegedly not notified of injuries that her deaf child recently sustained during recent protest action at her school.

Koliwe Nontsele says her daughter’s friend notified her that her child, who attends the Bartimea School for the Deaf and Blind in Thaba Nchu, had been admitted to hospital.

Pupils torched an administrative building on June 5, reportedly because they were unhappy over a fence which was erected to separate the girls and boys hostels.

Nontsele says her daughter does not know what struck her during the chaos, but she had to have three stitches to the forehead.

Both the Free State education department and police say they are not aware of any injuries sustained during the protest.

OFM News saw an empty shell of a rubber bullet at the front of the school the day after the incident, but the police denied that they had used any ammunition.
