Sasolburg - Residents of Zamdela near Sasolburg began returning to work today after days of violent protests over municipal demarcation. Free State police spokesperson, Peter Kareli says everything is under control, although the situation is still tense. Aldrin Sampear is in Zamdela and spoke to a few residents this morning:
Residents started protesting on Sunday in opposition to the proposed merger, in 2016, of the Metsimaholo municipality in Sasolburg with the Ngwathe municipality, under which Parys falls. Co-operative Governance and Public Affairs Minister Richard Baloyi announced on Tuesday that the merger would not immediately go ahead.
