Griekwastad murder trial: Judgement underway─── 10:33 Thu, 27 Mar 2014
Kimberley - Northern Cape Judge President Frans Kgomo began delivering his judgment on Thursday morning in the triple murder trial of a 17-year-old youth.
Kgomo started by indicating that the court sat as a children's court. He said everything was done to give the boy a fair trial.
The boy was represented by experienced counsel and had pleaded not-guilty but did not disclose his defence.
It was common cause that the boy was at the farm when the crimes were committed.
Kgomo said the quiet town of Griekwastad was rocked on April 6, 2012, when the boy arrived at the police station to report the murders.
He stands accused of the murders of Northern Cape farmer Deon Steenkamp, 44, his wife Christelle, 43, and daughter Marthella, 14.
They were shot dead on their farm Naauwhoek, near Griekwastad, on April 6.
The teenager also faces a charge of raping Marthella and defeating the ends of justice.
Judgment continues.
