Mangaung residents are being told to brace themselves for a near two-day water interruption due to Bloem Water maintenance operations from midnight tonight.

Mangaung Metro spokesperson, Qondile Khedama, says the water board’s imminent maintenance work at the Welbedacht Dam is done annually and the municipality will be providing water tankers to the affected areas, which in this case, is most of Bloemfontein. The other areas that will be affected by the maintenance outside of Mangaung include Wepener and Dewetsdorp. Operations at the dam are expected to return to normal from midday on Friday 21 June.

Khedama says the replacement and cleaning of valves forms a part of the maintenance.

The areas affected by the maintenance operation in the South of Mangaung are: Pellissier, Lourierpark, Bloemanda, Phases 2-7 and 9, Phelindaba, Bergman, Bloemspruit, Heidedal, Uitsig, Gardenia Park, Fauna, Universitas and parts of Langenhoven Park.

Mangaung Metro’ s fragmented relationship with Bloem Water has come under the spotlight in recent months after it was announced that Mangaung residents will be paying more for water this financial year, as the metro owes Bloem Water millions.
