Born and bred in Welkom, Free State, Nolwethu Dyonase’s love for public speaking paved her way to broadcasting.
She famously narrated her high school’s orientation play, and impressed enough to MC the matric farewell, despite only being in Grade 8 at the time.
After her family relocated to George in 2012, she completed a Tourism Management Diploma at South Cape College and while looking for employment decided to volunteer at the local community radio station, Eden FM. It was there that Nolwethu was exposed to the programming, news, and music departments.
A reliable and well-rounded individual, Nolwethu’s radio journey also opened her up to being a master of ceremony in some high profile events including the annual Airports Company of South Africa awards, the Nelson Mandela University Saasvled Campus name changing ceremony, and the annual Funda Mzantsi championships hosted by the National Library of South Africa.
Nolwethu decided to continue studying and had just completed her first year of study for her BA in Communication Science through UNISA when she won a presenting competition at Y-FM that awarded her a bursary to study media – her major being Radio at Boston Media House. She then was approached by OFM to join their music compiling department
Believing in radio’s ability to bridge gaps in communities by keeping all informed while transcending time, she has a love for South Africans in all their diversity and constantly looks for conversations aimed at unlocking the humanity and potential of each individual.
She enjoys reading self-help books, learning new dance moves, spending some time with family and friends, traveling and experiencing new places and cuisine. Her favourite quote is: “Owning our stories and loving ourselves through that process is the bravest thing we will ever do”.
