Weird Wide Web - Playing the typewriter | News Article

When watching a symphony orchestra, one would hardly expect a typewriter to have a seat with the violinists, cellist and the rest. But this is exactly what happened.

The man walks on to the stage, rather in hurry. He appears to be late. The conductor of the orchestra looks quite agitated and quickly asks the man to sit down. He does and another man brings him a typewriter. By this time the musicians seem confused and so does the audience.

The conductor then raises his arms, and the orchestra starts playing, but so does the typewriter, to everyone’s amusement.  This is a real composition; the composer Leroy Anderson. The piece is called "The Typewriter“. It was written in 1950 and first recorded by the Boston Pops on Decca Records. Only two keys on the typewriter functioned and a professional percussionist plays the typewriter.
