Top junior tennis players converge in Bloemfontein─── MORGAN PIEK 08:04 Thu, 06 Apr 2023
Over 500 of the county's top junior tennis players are in Bloemfontein for the Junior National Championships.
The tournament will see competition from under-12 to under-18 level for boys and girls.
The 2023 edition will comprise of 64 players across all age groups, with 60 players being direct acceptance from the combined rankings, while four players will be included as wild cards.
The bulk of the action will take place at the Free State Stadium, while games will also be hosted at Eunice Girls' School, Grey College and at the University.
The local favourite in the girls’ singles is Donna le Roux, the daughter of Ollie le Roux. Le Roux is seeded 2nd for the girl’s under-16 singles and she will enjoy a first round bye.
Cornel Liebenberg, the son of the former Proteas and Free State cricketer, Gerhardus Liebenberg, will also be in action.
Liebenberg in this turn is ranked 7th in the boy’s under-18 singles and he will be in action against Eric Matjiane in the first round.
Both players were recently selected for the SA under-18 teams.
The Junior National Championships in Bloemfontein will take place until 11 April.
