“We're just trying to make the country pound - it's been a while since the people back home have had something to smile about, and we're happy that we're able to some sort of a smile to their faces. We know that it's not the end, but it feels good.”

Bafana Bafana will target just their third-ever win over Nigeria on Wednesday night when they square-off in the semi-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

It will be the 15th meeting between the two teams, with the Super Eagles having won seven times, while five games ended in a draw.

Nigeria is the fourth most successful team in AFCON history with three titles, while Bafana won it once back in 1996.

The Bafana and Sundowns defender, Grant Kekana, said they just want to make South Africa proud.

“I can't explain this feeling, but it feels so good,” said the rock solid defender.

“The boys have been showing character, determination, resilience and have been playing for one another.

Wednesday night’s semi-finals between South Africa and Nigeria kicks off at 19:00, while at 22:00 Ivory Coast will face the Democratic Republic of Congo.
